Best Workplaces for Commuters(SM) is an innovative membership program that provides qualified employers with national recognition and an elite designation for offering outstanding commuter benefits, such as free or low cost bus passes and vanpool fares and strong telework programs. Employers that meet the National Standard of Excellence in commuter benefits—a standard created by the Center for Urban Transportation Research and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—can get on the list of Best Workplaces for Commuters.
Race to Excellence
Best Workplaces for Commuters recognizes the efforts and achievements of outstanding BWC Network Members and Employee Transportation Coordinators through the Race to Excellence. The Race acknowledges the tremendous effort put forth by individuals and organizations alike who work in the transportation management field or support transportation choices across the country. The 2009 Race to Excellence will be held from August 15 - October 15 with applications due on November 2. Members who have current BWC status are invited to join the race. If your organization applied to Best Workplaces for Commuters before 2009, you must download and hand complete a new application. You may wish to listen to a brief on-demand streaming recording summarizing the Race to Excellence categories and requirements and/or read the instructions for the 2009 Race to Excellence campaign. Encouraging and Supporting Bicycling through Employer Initiatives Web Conference
As a free benefit for Best Workplaces for Commuters' members, Best Workplaces for Commuters' held "Encouraging and Supporting Bicycling through Employer Initiatives" web conference on August 27, 2009. Alison Dewey, Program Specialist, Bicycle Friendly Communities and League of American Bicyclists and Jeremy Doak, Director of Marketing, Accor Services offered suggestions and examples on how to support bicycle commuting in the workplace, including the new bicycle benefit of Section 132(f) Qualified Transportation Fringe Benefit tax incentive and discussed how businesses can strengthen its bicycle friendliness. Members will be sent the URL to view the on-demand streaming recording.
